     Electromagnetic theory and microwave technology is always an important theoretical foundation of radio electronics, electronic science and technology, electronic engineering, communications engineering and other disciplines. Provides an important theoretical and technical support for modern technology, such as stealth and anti-stealth, microwave imaging, electromagnetic propulsion technology, microwave beam weapons, electromagnetic pulse detection, smart antennas, fiber optic theory, the interaction of light and microwaves.
 
This technology has a wide range applications in the television broadcast, wireless communications, navigation, aerospace remote sensing, remote telemetry, radar, electronic warfare, guns, environmental monitoring, non-destructive detection, electronic measurement, microwave heating, plasma research, geophysical exploration, radio astronomy, high energy physics research biomedical research, industry and agriculture. It also has significant impact on aerospace, the national economy, national defense and science and people's lives.
Discipline of Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology in Huazhong University of Science and Technology professionals have the right to grant master's and doctoral degrees, a post-doctoral research station. We also recruit foreign PhD students to study in China and postgraduates. It is the key construction disciplines of Hubei Province. Research related academician in our school also recruit students in this discipline.
    In the research area of Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology discipline, Huazhong University of Science and Technology has undertaken national " Seventh Five-Years Plan" scientific and technological issues, " Eighth Five-Year Plan " to "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" pre-research project, the National Natural Science Foundation, 863 projects, defense Technology Fund projects, exploration and research of major projects, fostering basic research projects, various provincial and ministerial funds and dozens of research projects laterally. The discipline won the provincial science and technology progress awards of achievement awards, first prize, second prize, third prize, declared a number of patents, and published two monographs "microwave remote sensing" and "microwave radiometry technology and application" (Electronic Industry Press) , and a number of textbooks, published more than 500 articles, of which more than 100 papers in SCI.
     We have characteristics and advantages in the research field of Microwave radiometer and calibration target and environmental characteristics of microwave radiation (including microwave radiation theory, measurement, database and model), passive microwave remote sensing, passive microwave detection, passive microwave imaging, electromagnetic theory of periodic structures, smart antenna and software aspects of the antenna, THz source, the new antenna theory and technology.
      Under-funded by 211 projects, 985 projects, we have established a good experimental conditions, including: microwave, millimeter-wave test equipment (such as: spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, network analyzers, signal sources, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.) ; high-speed synchronous data acquisition, processing platform, image processing platform; microwave radiation detection simulation platform, which includes high-performance computing servers, image graphics workstations, high-speed computer networks, large screen display systems, data storage systems, database systems, signal simulation and processing software, etc..
     The center has the national unique microwave radiation characteristics of the test field, with a corresponding measurement equipment, and lift able and movable test tower. Key Laboratory of Information Processing Technology Multispectral is the research base of our discipline. Part of instructors are Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics researchers. We also have collaboration with domestic and foreign research institutes and companies. The graduates can work at research centers or company in the area of wireless communication, radio and television, aerospace, remote sensing, telemetry, remote control, radar, electronic warfare, electronic components, resource exploration, medical equipment, electromagnetic compatibility, bio-electromagnetics, etc., engaged in the research, development, engineering, technical management.
